FIRE WITHIN
I heard the scream and as horrible as it may sound, it actually delighted me. It was coming from the alley below. I ran to the back of the roof and looked over the edge.
"Oh good it's dark and a dead end. Hmmmmm....awfully high, oh well, guess I'll jump it. What could happen? I die? Ha Ha yeeeeah." I thought to myself as I peered over the edge, readying myself to flip over the edge into the darkest part of the alley. I whipped my legs over the edge but to my surprise I didn't plummet to the ground. I actually steadily floated, until my feet touched the dirty, damp asphalt. There I stood in the shadows of the darkness. I could see two figures under the street light. It was a man beating the crap out of a young woman.
"You stupid bitch!" the man yelled as he slammed the woman against the brick wall. I remember those words. The very words my husband would say to me... Crys! You stupid worthless bitch!" For a moment I felt as though I was watching a clip of my own life, and the anger inside me grew. The man had the woman by her throat and raised his other hand to strike her but stopped in mid-air when I spoke.
"Well...Well. What do we have here..." I said. The man's head snapped back, looking in the dark alley but all he could see was my white, glowing eyes. Before he could even utter a word to reply, I stepped into the light, grinning. "Is this just a two-player game..." I started, "Or can anyone join in the fun?" The man looked disgusted at me. "Fuck off, bitch! This is of no concern of yours!" I continued forward until I was face to face with him.
"Awwwww.....and I was so hoping to play." I stated rather snotty. The man let go of the woman's throat and she collapsed to the ground, rubbing her neck and sobbing. He quickly turned to me. I could see his eyes. They were like two pieces of coal. He was sporting the latest fashion...an inner demon.
"You just fucked up, you crazy bitch!" said the man as he swung his fist towards my face, only it didn't make it to my face.
"What the...." he started as he turned to look at his fist, only to find my hand holding his fist firmly then turned back to look at my face, looking straight faced back him..."fuck??" His eyes widen as he uttered, "Oh god..."
"God's not going to help you." I said with a sneer. Then the anger took over me. Almost like instinct, my other hand became transparent and I rammed the hand deep inside his chest, grabbed the demon by it's throat then ripped it out. I let go of the man's fist and he fell to the ground completely unconscious to which the woman immediately went to tend to. I held this ghastly black thing by its neck, watching it flay around wildly, struggling to get away and listening to its nails-down-a-chalkboard screech. Vile disgust washed over my face and my hand started to glow and soon the demon was engulfed in flames, screaming and struggling.
"Welcome to my world, you little fucker." I said as it burned to black ash then blew away with the wind. I said nothing as I started to walk out of the alley, passed the two people when the woman looked up at me and said "Thank you." I stopped and looked over my shoulder down at her. The man made a slight groan and she quickly went back to tend to him. There was no hole where my hand had gone through and his eyes were back to normal. I said nothing and continued around the corner and disappeared into the night. But in the alley, in the very darkness where I had stood, a set of eyes appeared.....
