HEATED UP
"You’re awfully quiet." fluttered Sparx.
"Just a bit confused about what happened in the alley." I started as I replayed the whole thing in my mind. "It was just a bit….too easy."
"Well geez GF! You caught it off guard." started Sparx, flying wildly, "and do I really need to point out that your…NEW HERE!" Sparx poked my forehead and I fought the erg to bring up my hand and with two fingers just flick her half way down the street.
"No one really knows you.." I simply glared at her then she calmly finished, "ahem…yet. I’m sure once word spreads, if it hasn’t started to already, inners will be a lot more harder to get to. They’ll be watching for you now. Besides compared to the others, inners are easy. It’s the ones running around that are the hardest to…"
"Shhhhhhh…!!" I abruptly interrupted, "You hear that?" I listened intently to the dead silence. Sparx landed on my shoulder so her fluttering didn’t interrupt the deafening silence. Everything became so quiet. Not even the street light we were under made any humming noise.
"Something’s not right." I said quietly as I scanned the area. Slowly I looked around, down the street, up the street, windows and the roofs. No movement, nothing unusual but instincts told me something was lingering in the air around us. Some thing dark. Something evil. Then I saw it. Little beady eyes glaring at me from behind a trash can. I took one step in it’s direction and the damn thing bolted, "There!" I yelled and immediately started after it. My hand started glowing till a bright fireball immerged, to which I threw it in the direction of the little beast.
"Dammit!" I growled. "I missed!" With each fireball that grew in my hand I threw it towards the thing and each time it darted out of its way at the last second.
"Wirily little fucker, isn’t it." I grumbled again. I was actually enjoying the chase. Like a cat chasing after its prey. What a rush! This was more like it. The little demon darted left, darted right, avoiding the fireballs and frustrating me all at once.
"Damn thing! Stand still!" I yelled at it.
"Told you. The ones running around are the hardest to get, GF" said Sparx as she flew next to me.
"You’re not helping, Sparx!" I said as I threw another fireball, "Now’s not the time to start the ‘I told ya so’s.’"
"Look! There it goes! Down that…street??" Sparx started only to end a bit confused as we both stopped and watched the thing run down a side street. As it passed every street light, the light would shut off till the entire street was pitch black, "ummm….thaaaat’s not good." finished Sparx.
"Darkness or no darkness, it’s not getting away from me that easily." I said as I started to enter the blackness. It was so dark you couldn’t even see your hand in front of your face. That thick deep creepy darkness and I continued further into it till I was completely surrounded by it. I was so deep in that you could barely see the light from the street behind me.
"Come out, come out where ever you are." I teased "I won’t hurt you…much." Then I saw it’s eyes, just a few feet in front of me looking back at me.
"Theeeeere you are." I whispered and grinned as I started to raise my hand but suddenly stopped when Sparx interrupted me. "Ummmmm…GF?" I looked to my left, another pair of eyes. To my right, more eyes. I was complete surrounded by eyes glaring back at me. One by one, pair by pair, all appearing and glaring back at me. I whipped around and saw more eyes and they all started to get closer and the silence was broken by thousands of nails down a chalkboard screeching.
"Oh…shit." I mumbled to myself.
